How to Set Up a Subdomain for Your Account

In this blog post, I'm going to show you how to set up a subdomain for your account. This step is crucial as it will enable various functionalities, including setting up your website and emails from your account.

 Step 1: Accessing Settings

When you come to your login page, the first thing you'll need to do is click on "Settings" in the bottom left corner. From there, you'll see the "Business Profile" section. This is where you can update everything about your ministry, from the business name, ministry name, and address to your email and phone number.

 Step 2: Understanding Branded Domains

What we need right now is a branded domain, specifically a subdomain. For example, let’s say your main domain is yourchurch.com. We need this main domain to have a subdomain. Whether you use Squarespace, Namecheap, or GoDaddy, all you need is access to the DNS records.

 Step 3: Managing DNS Records

For this example, I’ll use Namecheap. Once you log into your Namecheap account, head to your domain list, click on "Manage," and then navigate to "Advanced DNS."

Step 4: Setting Up the Subdomain

In this scenario, my main domain is ministryincrease.com. We are going to turn this main domain into a subdomain by adding a prefix. Let’s use app.ministryincrease.com as our example.

Here's how to do it:

1. Click "Add Record Manually."

2. Select "CNAME" as the record type.

3. The host will be app—which is the subdomain.

4. Copy and paste the required value (specific to your setup) into the value field.

 Step 5: Verifying the Setup

After entering the details, click on the check mark to save. This process usually takes about 30 seconds to a minute to update. Click "Verify Records." If it initially says it can’t find the record, don't worry. Just wait for a minute and try verifying again.

Benefits of Using a Branded Subdomain

The reason for setting up a subdomain is that it will serve as your home domain for various purposes, including emails. For example, when you register for ministry contacts that offer emailing services, the subdomain helps them recognize your account as a legitimate domain.

With the correct DNS setup, you can send emails from more professional addresses like [email protected], instead of generic ones like [email protected]. This setup reinforces your ministry’s credibility.

 Example from Our Ministry

At MJV Ministries, our main domain is mjvministries.com. We created a subdomain to enable us to send emails from addresses like [email protected]. You can get creative with the first part of the email address based on your needs—outreach@, finance@, or [email protected] are some examples.

 Cost Efficiency

This setup can also be cost-efficient. If you use Google Suites, they might charge you per email account. With a subdomain, you can create multiple customized emails without additional costs piling up.

I hope this blog post helped you understand how to set up a subdomain for your account. In the next post, we'll delve into setting up your email and everything you need to accomplish that. Stay tuned!
